Stacked Stone: Why Builders are Choosing Veneer

Stacked Stone: Why Builders are Choosing Veneer

Despite what you might assume, stacked stone has been a design trend for millennia. From ancient Rome to the Incan Empire, stacked stone has naturally delighted those who live in homes and palaces made from it.

That being said, the trend of using stacked stone in America is rather new and only took off in the early 2000s. And with manufactured stone now available, builders are choosing stone veneer on projects of all budgets.

Stacked Stone Options

Veneer is so popular because of its flexibility. It works great with stone, brick, or manufactured concrete. It can be used on the whole house, on the front face, or just to provide some variety on windows and doorways.

Since the material can be thinly cut (or even formed), you don’t have to spend an inordinate amount of your budget on full-material loads. And, properly installed, veneer is just as durable full brick or stone builds.

Avoid Certain Faux Veneer & Artificial Stone

Given the sheer popularity of stone veneer, counterfeits are plenty. Builders and homeowners looking for the modern look of stacked stone while trying to keep things as affordable as possible.

Faux stone veneer or artificial stone made from PVC often produces the opposite effects of real stacked stone. It looks plastic-like and unnatural, and is prone to cracking, fading, and erosion from the elements.

While faux veneer may be cheap and look good for a season, unless it’s made from good material, you’ll be replacing it soon.
